FAQ

When is the squash season?

Squash is a winter sport at Conestoga High School. Tryouts take place in mid0November and the season concludes at the end of February. Dates of tryouts and team matches are posted on the team calendar.

The first official practice is at the end of November immediately after the roster has been set.

When does the scholastic season start and end?

Mid-November through the end of February.

Where does the team train and compete?

The team calls Berwyn Squash and Fitness its home facility.

Who participates in matches?

Historically, the program has carried an average of 16 players on its roster- this has allowed for all players to compete interscholastically on either the A or B team throughout the season.

Is Squash a Conestoga High School sponsored sport?

Yes, squash is a non-PIAA club sport at Conestoga High School.

All four years are considered a Varsity sport.

Are practices mandatory?

Yes, all practices are mandatory. Players must attend practices at least 4 days a week unless a valid excuse is given.

Practices are typically held 5 days a week.

Does interscholastic match play interfere with participation in junior tournaments?

Typically, our players are able to participate in both aspects of competition. There are only a few weekend team matches throughout the season and they tend to be on “off” tournament dates. However, if a player is scheduled to play in an event and will miss practice, usually on a Friday, they are expected to discuss and clear with the coaching staff.

Interscholastic squash play DOES NOT affect one’s junior ranking. It DOES affect one’s rating – this generally works as a positive for our players throughout a season.

Can a player miss practices to train with a private coach?

No. This is not permitted per team policy as it directly contradicts the concept of “team first” that has helped build the ‘Stoga program.

Is there a Code of Conduct for players?

Yes. All team policies regarding conduct are outlined in the Program Handbook.

Is prior squash experience necessary to try-out for the program?

No. However, the program competes at a very high level, nationally and locally. As a result, it is very difficult to earn a roster position without prior playing experience.

Is there a middle school program?

Yes, the middle school team plays under the name TE/Valley Forge as it is combined between the two middle schools. While this program is not sponsored by TESD, it is based and coached out of Berwyn Squash in accordance with the Mid-Atlantic Squash Association’s acceptance of the program.

What are the transportation arrangements for practices and matches?

Bus transportation was used to be provided by the program from CHS to Berwyn Squash each day of the season, and was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking parent-driven vehicles is currently the ONLY means by which players travel to and from matches.
